Saturday 28 September 1918.

Western Front. The Allies open another offensive, this time in Flanders. A British-French-Belgian army under Albert, King of the Belgians attack on a 23 mile front, Houthulst Forest and Wytschaete captured plus 4000 prisoners. Elsewhere the Germans are retreating all along the Front.

Macedonia. The French occupy Ochrid. At 1600hrs armistice talks open with Bulgaria.

Palestine. British and Arab forces join at Deraa.

East Africa. The Germans retreat from Portuguese Mozambique back into German East Africa.

Sunday 29 September 1918.

Bulgaria signs an armistice with the Allies to take effect at midday 30 September. In the final hours of fighting the French liberate Serbia's second city Skopje, the Greeks occupy Yenikoi.

Western Front. The British pierce the Hindenburg Line on a six mile front. The Belgians take Dixmude. Good progress by the Allied armies along the entire Front. The German High Command approach the Emperor requesting an armistice and a new government.

Palestine. 10,000 Turks surrender at Ziza.    

Monday 30 September 1918.

Bulgarian Armistice comes into force. See main page.

Western Front. The Allied general advance continues; many towns and villages taken. The Germans evacuate Cambrai setting fire to the town beforehand.

Palestine. The Turks evacuate Damascus leaving the Arabs to take control prior to the British arrival.

Most of the German navy vessels leave Zeebrugge after heavy bombardment by Allied forces from the air and sea.

The US Navy cargo ship Ticonderoga sunk by gunfire from the U-boat U152 in the eastern Atlantic, of the 237 onboard only 24 survived.

The German Chancellor Count Gerog von Hertling resigns.
