The Bessarabian Soviet Socialist Republic is proclaimed in Tiraspol, despite it not being part of Bessarabia. In reality it was a political move by the Reds, who had recently taken over that area of Ukraine, to create an administration that would "invite" Russian troops in to absorb Ukraine into Russia itself. Greek troops land at Smyrna in Turkey, supposedly to protect the Christian population, but in reality the Greeks anticipate that Smyrna will be awarded to them in the forthcoming peace treaty. In Estonia the last Russian troops are pushed back across the border at Narva causing panic in Petrograd as the Reds fear an attack on the city by Estonian forces backed by British naval units. The Royal Navy Caspian Flotilla of five converted merchant vessels and a seaplane carrier defeats a Bolshevik flotilla of four ships and two submarines off Alexandrovsky Fort in the Caspian Sea.
