The Bolshevik attack on the Allied army outside Bolshie-Ozerki is repulsed for a second time. Red Army deserters report that many of the Bolshevik conscripts are refusing to advance.

Red Army troops enter the Crimea and advance on the port of Odessa where many thousands are desperate to escape by sea.

Karl, former Emperor of Austria-Hungary, formally deposed in Austria. No such law is passed however in Hungary which inspires Karl to make two attempts to be restored as King of Hungary in 1921.

An Allied delegation led by the South African Jan Smuts arrives in Budapest to persuade the newly installed Communist government to follow the guidelines set down by the Paris Peace Conference in return for a lifting of the economic blockade imposed on Hungary. Smuts also has instructions to report back on the threat posed by Hungary to European democracy.

The Reds abandon Bolshie-Ozerki which is occupied by the Allies. This was the last major battle between the Bolsheviks and the Allied Intervention Force in northern Russia as Allied governments order their troops to withdraw over the spring and summer.

The socialist People's State of Bavaria overthrown by hardline Soviet-style Communists who proclaim the Bavarian Soviet Republic in Munich with Ernst Toller as President. The ousted government of Johannes Hoffmann sets up its seat of government in Bemberg.

The British battleship HMS Marlborough sails frrom Yalta in the Crimea carrying 12 members of the Russian Imperial Family plus several other Imperial figures and their respective entourages. Among those on board are the late Tsar's mother, sister and three of his sister's children. Also included is Prince Felix Yussupov the murderer of Rasputin. The warship is heading for Malta.

Just six days after taking office the Communist government of Ernst Toller in Bavaria (see 6 April) is overthrown by another Communist faction led by Eugen Levine who is under instruction from Moscow.

Europe now has two Communist governments, Hungary and Bavaria, operating under direct orders from Lenin in Moscow.

German troops under Gen. von der Goltz that the Allies have allowed to remain in Latvia to counter the Bolshevik threat overthrow the Provisional Government of Karlis Ulmanis and appoint Andrievs Niedra Prime Minister. This meant that there were now three opposing governments in Latvia; the Provisional Government recognized by the Allies, the puppet German administration and the Russian backed Soviet Government.

Roumanian troops invade the newly formed Hungarian Soviet Republic.

Troops of the newly proclaimed Bavarian Soviet Republic defeat a force of soldiers loyal to the ousted People's State of Bavaria at Dachau.

Russo-Polish War - Polish troops enter Russia capturing Lida, Novogrudok and Baranivichi the south. Their main objective is the only major city in the area Vilna.

The Provisional National Government of Southwestern Caucasus in Kars, north east Turkey is dissolved by the British High Commission in Armenia. This short-lived semi-independent government was viewed as a puppet administration of the Turks. A dozen leading figures in the government, including the President, were exiled to Malta.

Russo-Polish War - The Poles reach Vilna and lay it under siege.
