Date Posted:29/09/2021 08:44:21Copy HTML I heard this for the first time in years during the recent frenzy over their reunion - The Day Before You Came by ABBA from 1982. It was never a big hit and was the last they recorded together until this year. The lyrics read as a poem suggest a cheerful song, but the music and Agnetha's tone are so sad, the video too if you watch it carefully, especially from 2.01. If you've not got a lump in your throat you will have when she hits the high note at 3.52. Or is it just me that finds this so inexpressibly sorrowful. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Re:The Saddest Song? Date Posted:03/10/2021 11:38:28Copy HTML A stage performance from 1982. Agnetha was my teenage crush in the 70s, as she was for most boys at that time. Her lip-synch is rather off at the beginning. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.

Her lip-synch is rather off at the beginning. Abba was very big here in the 70's with songs like, Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, Take a Chance on me, Knowing Me, Knowing You, and SOS. All their music was easy to listen to and also easy to sing along with. |

Re:The Saddest Song? Date Posted:04/10/2021 06:40:42Copy HTML They are a very pleasant group though a little uptown for me. When you're found sitting in a city fountain belting out "driving that train high on cocaine" with a bunch of reprobates, you don't get invited to ABBA concerts.

Geez girl, by your confession everything would have been a little uptown for you. You make me sound like an alter boy. Mother always warned me about bad girls like you. Always had to find out the hard way though encase mother was just fibbing. |

Re:The Saddest Song? Date Posted:11/11/2021 06:54:35Copy HTML ABBA had a wonderful ability to make really jolly songs and desperately sad ones. This one is a sad one, the lines at 2.22 and 3.24 get me sometimes. You're playing chess with Fate and Fate's winning.
