I would love to. The Captain had the same surname as me and was born about seven miles away.

Mark, are you related to a "Smith?" Really now. I know original Titanic was from the White Star line in competition with Cunard. Where did this Blue Star line come from?

I heard that it was the Chinese who were building an exact replica.

No relation as far as I know.

Blue Star started out as a cargo line in 1911 before branching out into passengerr traffic in the 1920s on the South America route. It was bought by P&O about 15 years ago. It's seems an unlikely company to build a new Titanic.

Who, in their right mind, would book passage on a Titanic replica?  That's just daring Fate to look at you.

Well I guess with the arctic glaziers all but melted now there will be a less change of ramming into any large icebergs and that's a bonus right there.

I am the same as you and don't think I will be the first one in line to buy a ticket. Probably pricey also.  If it does happen though then they will have no problem filling the passenger list 10 times over. People are still drawn to the word Titanic and anything to do with it. It's movie version managed draw more attention to the Titanic story by showing you the horrors of the sinking, combined with a never ending love story.

Mark is allowed to have favourite dreams too Shula.lol We all know given the change Mark would choice the balloon ride over the cruise ship. Can you imagine what he would be like if he won a ticket to cross the Atlantic in one. We would never hear the end of it. Of course he would forget to take his camera just like on all the numberous holiday trips he takes.

If the rigid airship ever makes a comeback I would love a flight in one. There are those blimp things (semi-rigid airships to be accurate) but they're nothing like the real thing. Remember the "flying bum" that crashed in England a few years ago, a pale imitation of a proper airship.

I don't know if you remember but there was a child's body recovered and buried at Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Halifax but they could not at the time put a name to it. Well they have now. Sidney Leslie Goodwin Born Sept 9 1910- April 15 1912. He is not in this picture but these are his parents and brothers and sisters. All perished in the sinking and only Sidney's body was ever recovered. This picture is of the original tomb stone which they gave the child but now have placed a stone in front of it listing his name and birth date plus a picture of him. If you google Fair View Cemetery in Halifax you can see it now but for some reason I wasn't able to copy and paste it here.

Frederick's brother, Thomas, had already left England and was living in Niagara Falls, New York. Thomas wrote to Frederick, telling him about the opening of a power station there. It has been speculated that the famed Schoellkopf Hydroelectric Power Station (Station A), due to open in 1912, would have been his employer had he lived. Frederick, a compositor, packed up his wife and six children to prepare for the move. They booked third-class passage on the S.S. New York out of Southampton, but due to a coal strike that year the vessel's passage was delayed, and they were transferred to the RMS Titanic.[2] They boarded the Titanic in Southampton as third-class passengers.

Not much is known about the Goodwins' activities during the voyage, except that they may have been separated by sex in opposite ends of the ship, Frederick and his older sons in the bow, and Augusta with Sidney and the girls in the stern. Harold also met and spent some time with Frank Goldsmith, who survived.

By the time the Goodwins received a warning about the collision with the iceberg, all the lifeboats had been launched. The entire family perished in the sinking.

In his book, The Night Lives On, historian Walter Lord devoted a chapter ("What Happened to the Goodwins?") to the family, using the fact that they were English to challenge the White Star Line's implication that such high numbers of third-class passengers perished because they could not understand the English language.[
