Tell me, when you were in the army, did your fellow soldiers campaign for men to become women if they wanted to, or women become men? Would you have approved? Would your regiment have approved? Yes, we must ban the word Thug, as it's derived from the religious cult of Thugee. As kids, when choosing up sides for sports we often used the Eenie meenie miney moe technique. If there were blacks in the group we always substituted "monkey" for "nigger." Of course that was not out of respect, but fear of a beating.

Teresa, a number of my high school friends stayed in Illinois after graduation and from what they are saying and the replies to comments they make on Facebook, a lot of people are getting quite tired of Chicago dictating to the entire state.  I think your suggestion of making Chicago a city without a state is an excellent one.

Same for NY State & NY City. I am closer to Pittsburgh & Cleveland than to NYC, both geographically & lifestyle.

A talking head on T.V. just said; "The smartest people in the Midwest gravitate to Chicago." Hmm, well if that's true what about people who leave the Midwest for destinations other than Chicago? You know, people like...................NEVER MIND!

I would have to disagree with that talking head.  I think more of my classmates left Illinois than any other graduating class in the history of the school.  Some left, sadly, due to the Vietnam War and only returned for burial.  Others left because of opportunity or adventure.  One who left for a career opportunity was none other than Irving Azoff who is the only classmate I know of who earned his own Wikipedia page.  I remember him because he was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.  Our alphabetical placement put us in close proximity in the classroom.  I would say to that talking head that the smartest ones were more likely to re-locate to Champaign than Chicago.  I made my escape in 1967 and never looked back.  As for smarts, I have been accused of hailing from Indiana.
