I like to think that I'm pretty knowledgeable on geography, but a few weeks ago I leant something that had unaccountably eluded me for 56 years.

It began when I was looking for suitable anniversaries to enter on here, and I found this -

24 November 1918, 100 years ago today. Two minesweepers built for France at Fort William on Lake Superior for mine clearance duties across the Atlantic in the English Channel sank on their maiden voyage on the lake with the loss of all 78 crew (76 French, two Canadians). Three were built at Fort William, the Cerisoles, the Inkerman and the Sebastopol. They sailed together eastwards for Sault Ste Marie when they were caught in an overnight storm. Only the Sebastopol made it, the other two disappeared without trace, no bodies nor wreckage have ever been found, it was the largest loss of life in a single incident on Lake Superior.

When I first read about this I thought it must be wrong, a glance at the map told me that Fort William is over 900 miles from the sea as the crow flies and anyway how would they get there? But looking into it I found that Lake Superior is linked to the ocean by the other lakes via a series of rivers and canals, yet I never knew that. In fact Duluth Minnesota 1000 miles from the Atlantic has a sea port! The voyage just to get to/from salt water must be well over 1500 miles! How did I not know this? When did this sea route open? Duluth must be the furthest sea port from the actual sea in the world! Why has nobody told me all this?

If memory serves me I paid $150 for it way back when but I have never been cold in it. In fact I have been colder swimming than snow mobiling.

See now Tommy,  that's a selling point right there. NEVER BE COLD AGAIN. How many Brits can say that with a straight face.

We would have to push it to the younger ones with with things like, they are the latest style and to get their orders in now, because they are flying off the shelves.

Tell them they will be shipped to them directly from North America and made from the finest quality money can buy.

Bike rides will be able to ride all year round because no cold will be able to stop them.

Anyone living in a Glasgow council flat will never have to fear the winter again.

Can just seeing the money flying in now, can't you.. Maybe I will buy one of them Yachts at the Sportsman Show. The big ones that the 1%ers use to holiday on and travel the Trent Canal in system from Lake Ontario to Lake Huron and beyond. Probably gonna need a license for that.

A mass shooting is defined as 4 or more shot in an event. Here in the U.S. we have about one a day, sorta like the Vitamins, & every time one occurs we hear a hue & cry for gun control. Of course that does not sit well with the patriot crowd so the libtards have changed it to gun reform to make it sound more palatable. Almost like changing "baby" to "fetal matter" with the abortion crew. Anyway, the latest spin is to compare the gun violence to seat belts & it goes like this. The National Rifle Association has told doctors demanding reform to "stay in their line." Doctors responded with tweeted photos of blood-drenched scrubs & gruesome stories of treating gunshot wounds. Then there is the comparison of automobile accidents. Americans started driving in the 1920's & the accident carnage began by crashing into each other with death & destruction to follow. For the next 40 years the auto industry promoted the idea that cars don't kill people, people kill people. Familiar ring to it eh? But gradually the advice of public health experts took over & seat belts became mandatory, & the government prodded the auto industry into making much safer cars, crash resistant, airbags, child-safety restraints & other innovations. The number of auto fatalities plummeted as these new laws took effect. As the shooting massacres mount, gun reform has become a major public-safety issue. History has shown us "who's going to win, eventually."

Iceland's president has admitted he abused the powers of his office by threatening to ban the use of pineapple as a pizza topping. This has outraged Canadians who pioneered "Hawaiian" pizzas. Only a Canadian would put pineapple on a pizza & like it.

The firearms issue is simply a matter of common sense which the USA will display eventually.

My favourite pizza is seafood with tuna, prawns sweetcorn etc.

When I hit the red heart button Mark there is no you-tube Icon anywhere. I did have one when we first started here at this site and also one for pic's but don't have any of that anymore.

If it is a status issue you'll have to appeal to Shula for an upgrade. Say something nice about her poster boy Donald, that might help.

Where is that absentee Landlord anyway? I know that Shula is the only one that can do anything about it Mark but that doesn't mean I will stop blaming everyone on the site until she returns.

Trump doesn't deserve my best wishes and I would spend my Christmas in the middle of Harlem rather than give them to him.

No way eh! Besides pineapples don't grow in Canada for some reason. We usually only go for different meat topping like bacon, ground beef, pepperoni and hot sausage.

I don't mind the odd anchovie and hot peppers though and maybe if I'm feeling Greece slided black olives. I don't even like thick crust pizza but prefer thin crust. I think the pineapple thing was started in Canada by some drunk Italian.

What's wrong with you people, the war is over. Don't you have any beef or pork over there. Nobody puts corn on a pizza, or even fish for that matter, never heard of it.. Worse than savages over there.

They right now as Tommy will tell you are trying to change the law on butt stocks. If it passes then owners have 90 days to either to destroy them ot turn them in. Actually it's a good start because no one needs or can use one to hunt with anyway. I see they still have that female Russian infiltrator of the NRA behind bars. Good place for her.

You racist!!!!!  Why because I like motown music. Canadians don't want to spend Christmas in Harlem Major because there is no enough snow there for their Ski-doos.

Speaking of Harlem, I C where elephants in the former African colonies of GB are evolving with no tusks. All of the civil wars & unrest have cause severe poaching in mother England's former possessions & the elephants have gone into survival mode by producing fewer tusks. Some races are more evolved than others.

Maybe they have introduced Asian elephants which being smaller also have smaller tusks than their African cousins.

I don't believe it has anything to do with poaching because the elephant is killed first before the complete tusk is removed so it is out of the breeding chain for sure after that. It could also do with the elephants age.
