A small distillery in Tennessee has switched over from making whiskey to hand sanitizer. Can you imagine that? What a waste, everybody knows we need whiskey too to combat the virus. See peace of mind thingy. Oh how will some of us cope without drinking the hand sanitizer?

Funny, I thought NY was a democratic city run by a democratic mayor. Maybe Trump should move in their and wipe his arse for him, as he doesn't seem able to do it himself. Mind you, nobody can scapegoat like a Dem. Wait a minute, maybe it's those billionaires who are responsible. I say billionaires because I don't want ol' millionaire Bernie lumping in with the rich. Get this for Dem conspiracy theories, or should I say TDS? The sufferers are wondering why the greatest outbreaks are in Dem country? I smell a Trump plan to kill off all Dem areas, just ask Pete, he'll confirm it. So you must have read then that Florida seems to get all the supplies for this virus they ask for but all the other States are only getting a quarter of what they have asked for. Oh darn, the Governor of Florida is a Republican Major, imagine that. Looks like your theory is right. How on earth did you find this all out Major. I see Tommy your Coppers and Fire fighter in NY are getting hit pretty hard with this out break. That's not good for sure.

Yes Pete, one died from it.

Nobody likes the big rich kid on the block,

When my brother arrived in Canada in 74, he knew absolutely sod all about Canada but one of the first things he noted and told me was that there is one thing that unites all Canadians, it's their dislike of the US. He went on to say that they all seemed to have this inferiority complex about them. I don't think things have changed much.

I never had a rich kid on my block. What was that like to have one?

Canadians don't dislike Americans. That doesn't mean that we don't like poking fun though at the way they talk or act. If you want to see Ontarians at their best, then ask them what they think of Trump.  Many Canadians in the Province of Ontario started off as Americans first Major. Especially down were your brother lives. You will find families that live on both sides of the border still.

If your brother had known that first before he came over then he would have realizied they were going out of their way once they heard your brothers accent to say they were better than Americans in every way. Most wouldn't holiday 6 months of the year in Florida or Arizona if they disliked the people living there. The only real difference between Canadians and Americans is we are more liberal than them and we don't wave are flag around as much as they do because we already know who we are.

Off topic, the beavers are working hard now that spring has sprung. I am sure that Pete would know this, but if you ever wondered if a beaver gets killed by a falling tree, the answer is not often. They gnaw just enough of the tree & let the wind take it down later. I just witnessed that the other day.

They are something to watch at work for sure. When I was out in Cold Lake they had drained an area that had been inhabited by beavers for years and all the beaver trails they had made on the pond bottom deeper so that they could travel under the ice in winter were still there. Even the lodge with it's entrance was completely visible and you could see in. Beavers ponds are great for wild life but terrible for farmers with the damage they can do. To think a small animal like the beaver not only opened up a continent but was also instrumental in it's entire exploration.

I don't think Trump is quite getting it yet. He's tweeted that his coronavirus updates are getting more viewers than the final of The Bachelor (whatever that is). Looks like he rates success on viewing figures. Thousands could die but as long as you keep watching him he'll be happy.

Yepper Pete, after making arrests we had "toss" the subject. That in police jargon was "search." It started with a pat down & then you would have to ask him to empty his pockets & after he did you had to ask if there were any needles anywhere on his person. Then you made him turn his pockets inside out. The worst was a cavity search which nobody wanted to do, but at times it was required, you would be surprised what turned up in those hiding places. Sometimes you would miss something & the corrections guys at the holding center would find drugs or weapons, then there was hell to pay. Not a good time for sure.

They are very destructive for sure. There is a really nice camp up the road from me & the beavers have expanded the pond via numerous dams up to the porch. The owner hasn't been here since last fall & he has lots of work to do now. If the road floods the state Dept. of Conservation will live trap em out & relocate em. Of course the farmers & land owners have different ways of solving the problem rodents.

While whiling my time away during the quarantine or self-isolation, in addition the valuable discourses discussed on this site, I have been watching & listening to many old videos on the net. Janis Joplin, ZZTop, Merle Haggard to name a few. Anyway, I have come across a video by one of my all time favorite artists, Jackie Wilson, doing his rendition of the classic Irish song Danny Boy. Always a stirring moment for me to hear this beautiful song until I found out it was written by an Englishman named Weatherly. How disappointing........and at a dreary time like this. I shall endure to persevere.

With an Irish Catholic last name Tommy anything is possible. Like most releases during this time by different States I'm sure they only let out the ones not incarcerated for violent crimes. I hope.

They are showing the satellite views of the world and can't get over how they are so much clearer with this virus going on. The Chinese are seeing blue skies for the first time in years. Italy has clean water running in the canals of Venice with lots of small fish in them.  Even the pictures over the States are much better. Now it's not the same here where I live because I haven't seen a blue sky in 3 days with all the rain we are getting. Might as well buy and umbrella and live in England if this goes on any longer.

Prince Charles out of quarantine after only 7 days after he tested positive. 7 days is not near enough for someone who has tested positive for the virus.

People who have tested negative but have been near a person have to quarantine 14 days minimum here and in the rest of the world that same rule applies. So why is Britain only doing it for 7 days then?

The Justice Dept. seeks a pass on habeas corpus due to the current virus emergency. The department also asked Congress to bar people with the virus from applying for asylum.

Suspension of habeas corpus has been done in the past during national emergencies. Basically jailing people without charges. A good way to kill liberty eh?

They are all saying the best way to stop the spread and keep yourself safe is social distancing. 6 feet part is the standard rule.

The reason I mention it is I watched a news clip from England on Canadian news tonight and it shows a train or subway (doors opened like a subway) that comes into station and the doors open and it looked like a can of sardines all trying to get out of the can at once. There was roughly a hundred people piling out of the cars onto the platform and then all walking along in one big bunch. People seemed to not have any concern at all about social distancing. I'm pretty sure it was London.

Maybe Art can help us out with this.

The reason I mentioned Prince Charles is because most people who have been interviewed and have the virus are saying day 7 and 8 are the worst but Charlie was out shaking hands today on day 7.

I suspect that the crowded London Underground scenes were from two weeks ago, those scenes did much to convince Johnson to tighten up the rules.

Also if you saw film of Prince Charles out and about they were from two weeks ago.

The Cruise ship is being held up by the same ass kissing (R) Florida Governor that has all the medical supplies in his basement.

There are also a lot of Canadians on board. I'm surprised they haven't taken over the ship like I would have and beached it on one of those beautiful sand beaches with all the ship's fuel and oil drains open. What are they going to do to you for doing that. If you stay on the ship your only going to die from the virus anyway.

If it is allowed to make port, Canada would pick up their people and fly them back to Trenton for Quarantine like they have with the other cruise ships.

Insurance is getting to expensive for them to stay over winter in Florida now, so cruises are filling the gap. Most would stay in those gated communities when possible.

They are afraid of your health care costs if they get sick mainly. The cut off age for most of them now visiting the States is 70.

Behold! The World’s Largest Beaver Dam

In 2007, an ecologist named Jean Thie was scanning the Alberta wilderness with Google Earth in an effort to study permafrost melt in the Canadian wild. But then something unusual appeared on his screen: A beaver dam so huge, it was more than twice the length of the Hoover Dam.

Located at the lip of Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta, Canada, the world’s largest beaver dam is at least 2790 feet long. It likely contains thousands of trees and appears to have required the handiwork of at least two beaver families. It’s believed the beavers began the construction project up to three decades ago.

While it's an impressive feat of animal engineering, the dam is not very scenic. “The hodgepodge of mud, branches, stones, and twigs is cloaked in a layer of grass, meaning it’s been there for a while,” Atlas Obscura reports. “The dam stretches across a remote wetland area, which provides the creatures with both plenty of fresh water and bountiful building materials.”

In fact, the dam is located in such an inhospitable area of Canadian swampland that it isn't known to have been visited by humans until 2014, when Rob Mark of the Explorers Club of New York City made the trek. He began his journey in Fort Chipewyan, more than 120 miles away, and it took him five hours to cover the final mile (the ground was that boggy). “It was the only hard ground around for miles so I was happy to stand on it,” he said about reaching the dam.

Beavers build dams for a slew of reasons—take food storage. The critters will hide caches of food at the bottom of ponds and will build dams to increase the water's depth, ensuring their stockpile of goodies won't freeze over. Dams also function as a security system. “They create a habitat with lots of water like a moat around their lodges so they can swim and [dive] and keep one step ahead of predators such as coyotes and bears,” biologist Sharon Brown tells The Telegraph.

This isn't the only record-breaking beaver home in Canada, either. Thie also discovered that Pakwaw Lake, Saskatchewan, has what is likely the highest density of beaver dams in that country, and possibly the world—more than 20 dams and lodges per square kilometer (or about 247 acres)!
