Date Posted:06/09/2018 10:21:27Copy HTML Some say we should go metric cause our current system is archaic. Here are some really archaic measurements: flags - 25 square feet baronies - 4,000 acres falls - 342 square feet roods - a quarter acre townships - 36 square miles hides - 10 acres Live respected, die regretted

Re:MEASUREMENTS Date Posted:30/09/2018 11:11:18Copy HTML And when that chest collapsed into your stomach Tom, did you manage to get one last look at your best mate before he was eclipsed forever? Have you two never though of buying yourselves hand mirrors yet? They work great and if you combine them with a strong light can see more that you really want too. |

Re:MEASUREMENTS Date Posted:30/09/2018 11:27:42Copy HTML I wonder if dealers in precious metals pay the seller in oz's & sell the buyers in troy oz's? Most pawn brokers will only pay 90% of what the market value is and it also depends on what carat the gold is. 10k 14k etc. A Karat is 1/24 pure gold by weight. Thus, 24K is considered pure gold. The conversion/value of a gram gets a bit more complicated: I am a pawnbroker. The scrap value of gold varies daily, even hourly. I check http://www.goldprice.org/ daily to price my items. The amount given is in ounces of 24kt, but there is a link for grams of 24kt. You can do the math from the first answer's conversion of karats to figure out the 18kt, 14kt and 10kt prices. Pricing of wearable jewelry will differ from shop to shop. Plain bands and rings without stones will be priced less per gram than rings with stones. I price plain rings at 35% above scrap value. I price rings with less desirable stones at 45% above scrap value, and rings with more desirable stone at 60% above scrap value. If the ring has a diamond, which is the only stone I price based on its size and quality and cut, I have a seperate chart to figure the amount I will price a diamond gold ring. Sometimes I will price a particularly ugly ring less than others, or a very pretty ring a little higher. Other jewelry such as chains and bracelets I price at 45% above scrap. I sell pendants seperately from chains, and I do the math for these the same as I do rings. I also have discounts I give based on how long the jewelry has been for sale in my shop. Other pawnbrokers should have a similar method, even if it's not posted in the shop. This is where haggling comes in to play. The longer I have had something in my shop, the less I am willing to sell it for. I have a section of jewelry that is marked at 50% off. Some of these pieces are priced below scrap value after savings. If they don't sell, I will sell them to a scrap dealer in my city. Look up the gold price before you go shopping. A good pawnbroker will know the price of gold, a less than good pawnbroker will not. A great way to find out if they are knowledgable is to ask them "Do you know what the gold price is at today?" while you are examining a piece of jewelry. Happy hunting! |

Re:MEASUREMENTS Date Posted:01/10/2018 12:53:19Copy HTML Mirrors are verboten at my estate, Pete. And I make sure that the bathroom one is "steamed" when I ascend from the shower. I am like a nun or the Amish when it comes to craven images.

Re:MEASUREMENTS Date Posted:02/10/2018 09:27:47Copy HTML Pete, I do have a phone, but where it is I haven't a clue, as I've not seen it since we got back from Looe. It's a shame if I've lost it, as it's a collector's item and belongs in the science museum. It was one of those pay as you go jobs and I've had nine quid on it for the last two years. What's a selfie? |

Re:MEASUREMENTS Date Posted:02/10/2018 11:43:04Copy HTML My only cell phone is an old style, what I think they call a flip up phone. I leave it plugged into the car and use it either through the steering wheel or dash as a hands free phone. I paid 98 bucks for it 10 yrs ago and can text, take pictures and even go on line with it but never have. I pay $39.55 including tax per month and have unlimited calling 24/7 anywhere in North America. I can talk for 5 minutes or 5 hours, it doesn't cost me anymore because i don't pay for minutes like cell phones use to work here. My kids call me old fashion for not getting a fancy new one but as long as this one serves my purpose, why bother.
