In an era when we pretty well expect Presidents to be elected twice George snr's single term looks like a failure. Would it be fair to say he concentrated on foreign affairs more so the domestic matters which cost him the election in 1992 to the dynamic Bill Clinton?

It was unusual indeed & in my opinion "Baby" Bush couldn't make a pimple on "H's" ass. Several factors were: H's read my lips no new taxes which he reversed on, Clinton's perfect campaign strategy, & Perot's entrance into the fray making it a 3 man race & cutting into the Republican voter base.

The "read my lips, no new taxes" comment with his subsequent reversal may have led to his demise for his second term. His reasoning was we were starting to run a deficit & a tax hike was needed to offset it. Good Republican values, low taxes, strong national defense & the like. Clinton played on the "Bush lie" & add Perot into the mix with a 3 way race & the rest is history. BTW, George the first wanted to travel to Canada to join the RAF when he was 17 as they were accepting 17 year olds. He was dissuaded by his mother & waited until he turned 18 & joined the U.S. Navy & the rest is history. He was a great man & leader.

Yes I thought he was a good President also and both sons really didn't come close to filling his shoes. He could calm an audience with his preacher style voice. They are saying that Trump may even be allowed to attend his funeral. As long as Trump doesn't get up in front of the crowd and start telling everyone how much better he is as a President that George was, things will be ok.

Ferfukssake, can you not eat your cornflakes in the morning without wondering if Trump's poisoned them? Leave your TDS aside for a moment as t's not the time or place Pete, as we are talking about a great server of his country who has now left us. I always liked the man, as a person and a politician and the astonishing amount of time he was married to the same women says a lot about the character of him, considering the enormous temptation that comes with power that would have tempted him in his life. He was no Clinton, that's for sure.

The Bush's hate Trump Major and he was not allowed to attend Barbara Bush's funeral after the way Trump had bad mouthed her sons. The Obama family and the Bush's are buddy buddy.

It's till no reason to enter him. I bet George hated plenty of politicians in his time, why not enter them too?

It's the whole family of Bushs that hate Trump for what direct they think Trump is taking the Republican party and the whole country. Georges war sevice haunted him throughout his life. He was tasked with taking out a small radio station on one of the smaller Islands and the plane was hit from ground fire. He dropped his bombs and pointed the aircraft out to sea and then yelled at the two other crew member to bail because there was no inside communications to talk to them. He bailed but never seen the two others do the same. It was reported through the Japanese that one had bailed but his chute had roman candled and was killed. The third crewman either never heard the order to bail because there was a armoured wall between the pilot and the other two crew or is may have been killed or wounded by the ground fire and couldn't bail.

I know one thing, TDS will override rationality and decency in this passing of a good man and his dead body will be used in one form or another to attack Trump.

Bush was well liked by both sides of the aisle and had the gift of talk. Him and Clinton became good friends in later years and did a lot of touring together to raise money for different charites they believed in. Trump will attend because he has to. This is not just a funeral for a war hero like McCain but for a President and a Republican President at that.. Bush was not just the President of the United States but a real world leader.

It's plain and simple, when Bush spoke the world listened. When Trump speaks the world laughs.
