Date Posted:15/11/2018 08:47:33Copy HTML Interesting quote re: American country music & I thought the Major & Mark may like it. "The main appeal of our music of the the south is found among the long-historied, little-loved descendants fo the people woho built half the civilized world".........The Anglo-Saxons. Not to leave you out Pete, but I can't find any quotes interesting re: Canadians that don't include beavers or canoes. I shall keep trying in my endless quest to be fair & balanced. Re:ANGLO-SAXONS Date Posted:16/11/2018 01:02:47Copy HTML While still in Basic Training my Black Watch Sergeant who came from Cape Breton Nova Scotia use to have a saying and it was, Why don't you pull a Hank Snow and keep "Movin on." The biggest shock to me in the East Coast of Canada was all the radios stations seemed to play only old country and western music. Back in Ontaio it was more modern music from the Beach Boys on forward and the Motown sound. Hell they were still wearing white socks down there when I arrived. On week 14 or 15 we were allowed to leave the barracks for a couple of hours to go to the local show on the base but not before we were inspected in our civilian dress. I gets dressed in my civi's and try my chances in getting past the Sqt. He takes one look at me and says, your from Toronto, aren't you. I said yes Sgt. and he says just like I thought, your dressed like some kind of Toronto queer. I had a high boy shirt on and skinny tie and a mohair sweater with a dress leather coat on the top and I was wearing tailor made stove pipe dress pants and clark shoes which were suede with buckels on the side. I had been working before I joined so did have the means of buying the $600.00 it had cost me for that out fit in 1966. Silly me says, well east coaster have nothing to brag about on how to dress to go out. Next minute I was down borrowing clothes that made be fell like shite and looked like shite. I goes back and he looks at me and says, Why didn't you show up dressed like this in the first place. I say out of embassassment. He then went into his Hank Snow and movin on routine and said be back for duty at 22:00 hrs and don't be late. By the time we get to the movie it's already started and then had to leave before the movie was finished to get back before the curfew. That was the first and only time we were allowed to leave the barracks until trades training in Borden Ontario. All I guess just part of the head trick basic training was about. |

Re:ANGLO-SAXONS Date Posted:16/11/2018 08:19:30Copy HTML There is nothing new in music, whether it's jazz. rock, country or reggae, it all has its roots in classical music. Before classicists, it was just a noise.

Re:ANGLO-SAXONS Date Posted:17/11/2018 03:10:50Copy HTML The Beatles were one of the first groups I would say to change music. They learned to use and mix both classical musical instruments and electronically produced sound in their work. After that, everyone was trying it. |
